2025 was a landmark year for fertility treatment in Malta.
According to the Embryo Protection Authority’s 2025 Annual Report, Malta achieved its highest-ever national IVF pregnancy rate of 57.77%, together with its highest-ever Take-Home Baby Rate of 45.01%.
A record 254 babies were born through IVF during 2025.
Behind this national success lies an equally remarkable story: HOPE Fertility & IVF was responsible for the overwhelming majority of fertility treatments—and pregnancies—recorded in Malta during the year.

These are not estimates or selected clinic statistics. They are based on data reported under Malta's regulated ART framework and published by the Embryo Protection Authority (EPA).
The results become even more significant when viewed in the context of what happened during 2024 and 2025.
While the ART Clinic at Mater Dei Hospital underwent major refurbishment, hundreds of patients who had been waiting for publicly funded fertility treatment needed another route to continue their journey without unnecessary delay.
The Maltese Government therefore introduced a public-private outsourcing programme, under which patients from the national waiting list were treated at the licensed private facility HOPE Fertility & IVF.
During 2025 alone, 494 of the 717 procedures performed at HOPE involved patients referred through this government outsourcing programme.
The Embryo Protection Authority describes the project as having ensured continuity of care while helping to significantly reduce waiting lists.
But continuity alone was not the only outcome.
The clinical results were exceptional.
Of the 249 pregnancies recorded nationally following eligible embryo-transfer cycles in 2025, EPA figures show that 240 resulted from transfers carried out at HOPE Fertility & IVF.
That means:
More than 96% of Malta’s IVF pregnancies recorded for 2025 resulted from treatments performed at HOPE.
This figure should not be confused with a pregnancy success rate.
Malta's national pregnancy rate was 57.77%.
The 96.4% figure represents HOPE's share of all pregnancies achieved nationally, reflecting the scale of HOPE's contribution to Malta's record-breaking year.
It is a distinction we believe is important to make clearly and transparently.
Perhaps one of the most important findings in the EPA report is the consistency of the results across different patient groups.

The similarity between HOPE's private and government-funded patient outcomes is particularly important.
It demonstrates that strong clinical performance was maintained while HOPE substantially increased its treatment volumes and cared for hundreds of patients transferred from Malta's public programme.

The EPA's 2025 data also highlights the performance of HOPE's embryology laboratory.

These laboratory outcomes were achieved while HOPE was operating at an unprecedented scale and treating the majority of Malta's ART patients.

Our laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited, alongside Malta's own regulatory requirements, and every patient pathway operates within the regulatory oversight of the Embryo Protection Authority.
Only a few years ago, Malta's national fertility-treatment results looked very different.
The national pregnancy rate stood at 18.38% in 2020. By 2024, it had reached 46.30%.

The Government of Malta subsequently announced that these results place the country among Europe's leading performers in assisted reproduction and significantly above European averages in several treatment categories.
The transformation reflects several factors: progressive legislation, public investment, regulatory oversight, new treatment options and, increasingly, collaboration between the public and private sectors.
HOPE is proud to have played a major part in that progress.
Statistics matter in fertility medicine.
They allow patients to compare outcomes, allow clinicians to improve treatments and allow regulators to measure whether a healthcare system is working.
But statistics alone do not explain what fertility treatment means to the people undergoing it.

The Malta Independent reported the EPA's record figures and the Government's statement that Malta's performance now places the country among the leading European nations in assisted reproduction.

In 2025, Embryo Protection Authority CEO Simone Attard wrote in the Times of Malta about the public-private programme and the strong results already emerging from treatment undertaken at HOPE.
The article highlighted the Government's €6 million outsourcing project and reported that 99 babies were already expected from the first seven months of the programme.

When the Mater Dei ART facility closed for refurbishment in 2024, Times of Malta reported that patients on the national waiting list were being transferred to HOPE Fertility & IVF to ensure treatment could continue.

HOPE has also shared independently reported clinical outcomes through its professional social channels.
Our IVF Guarantee Programme, for example, recorded 73 pregnancies among 75 completed eligible own-egg programme patients—a 97% cumulative pregnancy rate as of May 2025.
This is a separate measurement from the national EPA pregnancy rate and relates specifically to eligible patients enrolled in HOPE's multi-attempt Guarantee Programme.

Success rates in IVF can be expressed in several different ways: per patient, per treatment cycle, per embryo transfer, as clinical pregnancy, ongoing pregnancy or live birth.
For this reason, HOPE believes fertility statistics should always be presented together with their definition and source.
The figures presented above relating to Malta's 2025 national performance are based on the Embryo Protection Authority's 2025 Annual Report.
Individual treatment outcomes vary according to factors including age, ovarian reserve, reproductive history, diagnosis, sperm factors, use of donor gametes and individual medical circumstances. Published success rates cannot predict the outcome of an individual patient's treatment.
